Stone of the Moment: The Yellow Sapphire

Stone of the Moment: The Yellow Sapphire

As summer continues to try and poke its way through the haze of spring, I’m noticing a big gemstone trend. Yellow sapphires are popping up everywhere, on everything from pendants to studs to engagement, and I love that they represent luck and give off a strong warm glow. In fact, there is even a city in Rajashathan, India that has buildings famously built from yellow sandstone. At dusk, the facades in the ‘
all turn this moody, marigold-like color, evoking the same magical quality you experience when gazing at a high-quality yellow sapphire.

So let’s take a look at some of my very favorite pieces I’ve seen lately that feature the stone—and perhaps the hue—of the season. They can certainly range in color, but here you’ll mostly see pieces with a strong concentration of honey and gold. You might even take on a new pang of wanderlust after seeing my list. I know I’ve already started thinking about where I’d like to go to next for adventure and inspiration.

This floral charmer makes me smile and brings a sense of whimsy to whatever I’m wearing. Whether it’s jeans or a cocktail dress, the femininity behind it brings a smile to my face. I also love the ring for its striking contrast of a 1/6 of a carat of yellow and white diamonds set on a yellow gold band. I could even see the stunner being stacked with a few other white (or even black) diamond bands.

Right now, who can’t resist some sort of a new layering necklace to go with a tennis necklace and other pendants and charms? Injecting a hint of color always works in this scenario, and I happen to love this dainty three-stone yellow sapphire and white diamond find from Angara. With .32 carats, the yellow gold creation lends just the right amount of additional shimmer for summer days and nights. It can also be worn on its own with a more intricate dress or neckline to pare a look down.

And now for the stud. A smart investment, the small but mighty essential goes everywhere and can make an unexpected statement in a snap. Designed in a beautiful, romantic pear shape, this The Last Line addition set in 14k yellow gold showcases that amber-inspired tint I go crazy for. Try pairing it fiery tone with other colorful gemstone studs up and down the ear for an exciting and playful day-to-night look.

For an engagement ring option, this timeless design from the Vera Wang Love Collection is just as breathtaking as one her dresses.  A GSI-certified, octagon-shaped yellow sapphire is complemented by a duet of baguette-cut diamonds, a pave-diamond band and interior princess-cut blue sapphires which are there to signify faithfulness and everlasting love, the cornerstone of the collection. Therefore, this piece not only pleases the eye, but also represents the values of marriage.

For a show-stopping, old-Hollywood sense of glamour, there is this stunning pair of drop earrings from Neil Lane Couture.  What starts with a fleur-de-lys crown ends with 1.07 carats of mesmerizing heart-shaped yellow sapphires; in the middle rows of pave, round-cut diamonds
bring even more glitz. I just can’t get enough of their exquisiteness and how perfect they are for a formal affair!
