Sparkle For the Holidays With These Fall/Winter 2019 Jewelry Trends

Runway style and fashion trends always dictate the direction in the world of jewelry and the cultural arts scene.

During Fashion Week, it’s always a fun exercise to predict which of the boldest trends might translate into what we might find ourselves actually wanting to wear on a big night out.

This season, the Fall/Winter 2019 runways gave us “prim and proper” looks with a touch of 70s nostalgia. Fashion houses such as Hermes, Celine, and Tory Burch were all about proper tweeds and heritage fabrics, defining the “Bourgeois moment” on Paris runways.

Quintessential houndstooth, plaids, and the occasional collar frill all gave recognition to an affluent-inspired Victorian look and a real glimpse of the past.

TREND: CAMEO APPEARANCES

Everyone’s grandmother had a cameo necklace or brooch that we coveted once upon a time, right? So what would be a perfect complement to heritage-inspired looks than this period piece style of jewelry design?

A huge trend we are seeing this Fall/Winter season are Cameo earrings and necklaces.  From Baroque inspirations to sheer classic designs, cameos are back and here to stay.

Stemming from the ancient Greek word “khamea” or amulet, and the modern Italian word meaning “to engrave,” the cameo—with its tiny scene or figure carved in a “relief” style—is said to attract health and good fortune to its wearer.

TREND: PEARLY WHITES

All things classic are alive and well this season when it comes to pearls—especially the fresh water variety—making their way into wardrobes for the Fall/Winter season.

Beautiful pearl drop earrings, classically inspired oversized pearl chokers, and multi-strand pearl necklaces all inspired by traditional designs and simple lines. These period pieces bring back the essence of mahogany lined libraries, deep leather reading chairs, and cigars burning with hints of vanilla and cedar.

TREND: CHUNK WITH FUNK

With a nod to the 70s and the “Bourgeois” culture, it’s time to dust off your chunky gold chain belts, necklaces, and bracelets. Making a dramatic statement is cool again, and these bold looks—especially when paired with the hot Tangerine color of the season—should inspire us to revisit the classic 80s Gucci and Hermes equestrian themes we’ve grown to love.

From Punk to Rock & Roll, to straight-up shock value, chunky, heavy jewelry designs are one of the season’s favorites with the likes of Alexander McQueen and Gucci supporting these styles on their runways.

When in doubt about wearing these runway trends this winter, I would suggest keeping your overall look classic and accentuate with one or two standout pieces per outfit. Statement earrings are a solid choice for a pop of sparkle. Wear them alone, or coupled with a classic pearl necklace—either a simple full string or a choker—as an amazing look for the Holiday Season with a less is usually more in terms of jewelry styling. Your goal should be to look festive and fashionable without any fear of under-accessorizing as you prepare to ring in the New Year ahead. Play with your imagination, but consider your own style as a benchmark for what you want to wear, and choose jewelry that’s appropriate for your own wardrobe items. But remember to have some fun with your jewelry. Don’t stress, just look your glamorous best!
